Admission Criteria

General

All applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the time that they commence their course. To gain admission to a course at AHE, applicants needs to fulfil AHE’s:

  • General Academic Admission Criteria or Alternative Academic Admission Criteria;
  • English Language Requirements for Admission; and
  • If applicable, additional Specific Course Admission Criteria for the course the student wishes to enrol in.

General Academic Admission Criteria Or Alternative Academic Admission Criteria

To gain admission to a course at AHE, an applicant needs to fulfil AHE’s:

  • General Academic Admission Criteria or Alternative Academic Admission Criteria, and
  • English Language Requirements for Admission, and if relevant
  • Additional Specific Course Admission Criteria for the course the student wishes to enrol in.

General Academic Admission Criteria (Undergraduate Course)

To satisfy the general academic requirements for admission to an undergraduate course at AHE, applicants must meet at least one (1) of the following entry requirements:

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent with a minimum ATAR of 50 or equivalent (for the BIT, students are required to achieve a score/mark of a minimum of 60% in a mathematics/information systems/information technology unit); or
  • Successful completion of a secondary qualification at an equivalent level from an international education provider; or
  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited Tertiary Preparation Program or a Foundation Year Program offered by an Australian University that would enable students to gain entry to an Australian University; or
  • Satisfactory completion of one year of accredited full-time study at a registered institute of tertiary education at AQF level 4 or above; or
  • Admission to an undergraduate degree at an Australian University

Alternative Academic Admission Criteria (Undergraduate Course)

Alternative Academic Admission Criteria for applicants into undergraduate courses who do not meet the General Academic Admission Criteria:

a) Applicants who are twenty-one (21) years of age or over who have not completed Year 12, or its equivalent may fulfil the academic admission criteria through one of the following entry requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Special Tertiary Admission Test administered by a tertiary admission centre; or
  • Submission of a portfolio of prior and current academic and /or professional work.

b) The processes used to monitor the progress of students enrolled under the Alternative Academic Admission Criteria include:

  • Monitoring of the student’s progress by the Course Coordinator (CC) during and at the end of each study period in the first year of the student’s enrolment.
  • A “Review of Student Progress” meeting between the student and the CC at the end of the first year of the student’s enrolment.

General Academic Admission Criteria (Postgraduate Course)

To satisfy the general academic requirements for admission to a postgraduate course at AHE, applicants must meet the following entry requirement:

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree (AQF 7) or higher-level qualification.

Additional Specific Course Admission Criteria

Requirements for Admission

In addition to the General Academic Admission Criteria stipulated above, individual courses may have additional admission requirements specified in the course admission specification which applicants are required to meet to demonstrate their capacity for success in the course. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Specific studies (e.g. English or mathematics at a specified level);
  • Attendance at interviews;
  • Presentation of folios; and/or
  • Submission of supplementary information forms

Additional Specific Course Admission Criteria for the Bachelor of Information Systems: None

Additional Specific Course Admission Criteria for the Bachelor of Business: None

Additional Specific Course Admission Criteria for the Master of Information Systems: None

English Language Requirements for Admission

AHE recognises a number of English Language Tests and English Preparation courses which can be undertaken by an applicant to fulfil English Language competency for admission to AHE. All tests must have been completed by the applicant and the certification issued by the awarding institution no more than two years prior to the commencement of the first study period of the AHE course.

Results required for postgraduate courses 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in each section) 79 or higher overall 59 or higher

Other equivalent English language proficiency test results from accredited English language institutions in Australia or overseas are also accepted. To check whether AHE recognises these results as equivalent, please contact admissions.he@apexaustralia.edu.au
